Cascade & Porter – August 1st, 2025

After waiting all summer for the temperature to drop a bit (it was really hot and dry this year) I picked Cascade and Porter as my first of 20+ of the ADK46 I would attempt in August 2025 to help kick-start getting back into shape. There are many good reasons that these peaks are popular, the approach is right off the highway, parking is ample up and down the highway, and the trail while not marked well is so run into the terrain it’s impossible to lose it until there’s significant snow. It’s also a short hike for a 46R.

Given the popularity of the route, the easy to follow trail, and the easy parking you’ll also see people the entire way up and down so if you’re recovering from a major health incident this makes it the safest of the 46R trails to tackle because assistance is never very far away. However it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t bring along your rescue beacon, when you do need help, getting it as quickly as possible can make all the difference.
